What very few people realize is that southern Nevada has some of the best outdoor activities in the south western United States. Lake Meade National Park not only offers a great tour of the Hoover Dam, but Lake Meade is a hot spot for boating, water skiing, jet skiing, fishing and even some scuba diving. The roads that wind around the lake are frequented by motorcyclists and bicyclists, runners and walkers. If you go far enough into Lake Meade National Park you run into the Valley of Fire, a park named for it’s spectacular fiery red rocks and stunning landscape. On the west end of Las Vegas is Red Rock Canyon, more spectacular landscaping for horseback riding, hiking, camping, rock climbing, biking and motorcycling.

And let’s not forget the trails for the ATV crowd. In Las Vegas there are two major areas where the locals go to ride. The first one is about a half hour outside of Las Vegas at the north end of the strip just past Nellis Air Force Base. There are two ways you can reach the Nellis Dunes. You can either follow Las Vegas Boulevard (aka The Las Vegas Strip) to the north and past the Las Vegas Speedway until you get to the end of it or you can take the I-15 to the Apex exit and turn right. You can’t miss the Dunes on this lonely stretch of road. If you came off the I-15 the Dunes will be immediately on your left, in fact, you will be able to see them from the exit ramp. Every weekend there are trailers and RVs parked up on the Dunes. You can watch kids and adults riding the trails on ATV’s and dirt bikes from the road.

If you follow the Boulevard south as far as it will go, you will find yourself paralleling the I-15 going towards California. This stretch of road will take you to the Jean Dry Lake Beds. The area here is also wide open desert with plenty of space for ATV trail riding and should take only twenty to thirty minutes from the Strip.

Venturing outside of Las Vegas you can find another ATV hotspot, the El Dorado Dry Lake Valley Area. Take US 95 or the Boulder Highway south towards Searchlight. Seven miles after the Railroad Pass Casino before you reach Searchlight you’ll find the trails. And finally off of US 93 is the Logandale Trails System.

An inexperienced rider or first time visitor to Las Vegas might want to consider hiring a trail guide. Most of these trails are unmarked and difficult to follow if you aren’t familiar with the area. If you are already familiar with the Wii photo mode, for sure you will recognize a lot of that design in this PSP camera perception for photo/video management.

The 1.3 mega pixel camera's software let you enjoy the functions of a robust photo viewer and even a photo editor. Press a button and you can view all of your photos in a slide show, complete with a diversity of effects.

You can have your series of sequences play back in black-and-white or reverse, amongst a series of assigned or randomly-chosen effects.

The editing software for PSP camera also let you make your pictures and videos more attractive, transmitting some of the effects detailed above as well as adding new abilities.

If you wish to put funny glasses and a mustache on a PSP for example, go and do it. For videos, you can put names and limitations around clips (There are a total of 72 different modifications you can make to your media with the software, including background music playback. Using the PSP Camera is rather easy. The camera can spin 180 degrees, so you can either face the camera from the PSP screen either back at yourself or at your subject, or you can wind it around and use a more traditional view with the PSP's screen acting as your big viewfinder.

The camera has a digital zoom function, which isn't so ideal in execution because it jumps in steps of zoom rather than easily zooming through various levels. This type of camera does not have the same kinds of problems of time-delay in revive rate as the E3 2006 demo version of the PSP camera did, so that hopefully will not be an concern.

In previous announcements, indications seemed to be that the PSP Camera would snap pictures and videos directly to your Memory Card, just as standard media for the PSP to handle and trade, but the TGS build created nervousness for how Sony really intends to handle the feature.

The videos can actually be "transmitted" to AVI for playback on a PC, according to recent information, but how the video is exchanged and why AVI (when modern PCs can use PSP's MPEG4 formats just fine, assuming this shoots in that format) is still unknown.

Also discomforting was that there was a demonstration of this new camera and on demonstration on hand of the PSP camera there was no smart Eye Toy Portable to show it off. No Game Face or in-game photo feature to recognize your online log-in in if the game might support such a feature. No games of any kind using the PSP camera.

There wasn’t shown any online photo/video operations in the function, or anything else for the use of this new accessory. No PS3 implementation was detailed either. All you could do here was take pictures and mess around.

GRILLED VENISON WITH BACON

Prep time: 6 to 7 hours

Cooking Time: 20 minutes

Serves: 4

Ingredients

2 lbs. venison backstrap (tenderloin)

1 qt. apple cider

1 1/2 lbs. thick sliced bacon

2 12oz. bottles of barbecue sauce

Cut venison into 2 inch chunks and place in a shallow baking dish. Pour enough apple cider into the dish to cover the venison pieces fully. Place the dish in a refrigerator and allow to soak for two hours.

Remove venison from the cider and shake the pieces vigorously to free them of cider. Throw away the cider that is left in the dish. Wash the dish before putting the venison in it again.

Put the venison back in the dish and pour in the barbecue sauce generously -- so that it covers the venison fully. The dish should then be covered and returned to the refrigerator for two to three hours.

Remove the venison from the fridge and let it stand for half an hour in normal room temperature. Next, wrap bacon slices around each chunk of venison. Secure the with toothpicks to make sure that it does not fall off during grilling.

The venison is now ready to be barbecued. Heat the grill and brush some olive oil on the grill grate. Lay the venison packed in bacon on the hot grill. You can expect the bacon to cause flame-ups, but don't worry. Let it get slightly burnt. It adds to the smoked flavor. Turn the venison a few times to ensure smooth and even cooking, and serve hot.

STUFFED GRILLED PORK CHOPS

Prep time: 30 minutes

Cooking time: 20 minutes

Serves: Four

Ingredients

4 extra-thick rib pork chops, 1" to 1 1/4" thick

3/4 cup dry breadcrumbs

Large pinch dried rosemary, crumbled fine

Large pinch dried marjoram, crumbled fine

1 Tbsp. melted butter

1/2 cup minced sweet onion

1 small clove garlic, minced

1/2 tsp. salt

Slice shallow pockets in the pork with a sharp knife.

Take a deep dish and toss the breadcrumbs, herbs, butter, onion, garlic, and salt. Mix well, then stuff the mixture into the pockets.

Grill the chops. They should be grilled at medium-high heat for 8 to 10 minutes per side. To ensure even cooking, the chops should be turned several times.

Serve once the chops are nicely browned.

Records say the coffee maker produced one thousand cups of espresso in an hour, using steam to push water through coffee held in a filter.
